The Manor house - the 18th Century onwards
The
Harley family bought the ruins of the fortified manor in 1706 and
repaired the fortified manor, to live in. For about a hundred years,
they lived in the manor until they abandoned it in the early 19th
Century, taking with them useful materials such as the timber in the
roof and the windows. Unprotected from the weather, the skeleton of the
manor fell into ruination and by the 21st Century, it is barely a
symbol of it's intriguing and captivating history. The remains are now
unsafe and shouldn't be approached because of the risk of falling
masonry.
Below is all that is now left of the ruined manor. The majority has
now fallen down, and what remains is a skeleton of the grand manor that
once inhabited this countryside. The ancient castle ruins below it have
remained untouched for several hundred years and are not affected by
the manor itself, but are affected by the trees. The present owner has
tried to minimise damage by removing the larger trees.
